Local Attractions in Llandudno

The Llandudno Promenade is a 2-mile paved walk along the seaside between the Great Orme and Little Orme. It is lined by Victorian properties on one side, and the ocean on the other.

Whether your interests lie in history, bird watching and natural history or simply walking or enjoying spectacular views, the Great Orme has something to offer everyone. You can orient yourself to all the Great Orme’s offerings by visiting the Great Orme Country Park Visitor Centre.

The Llandudno Museum and Gallery is a wonderful resource to orient yourself to the history and heritage of Llandudno. Its collections cover natural history and geology, local decorative and fine art, social history, and military history. Together the collection builds a picture of the development of the seaside resort from the prehistoric age to current day affairs.

West Shore in is a fantastic beach to go to get away from the hustle and bustle of the Llandudno town centre. The beach has spectacular views of Conwy Mountain, Snowdonia and beyond. In spring and summer you’ll often find people windsurfing, picnicking and building sand castles - and ultimately, just taking some chill time. 

Llandudno Pier proudly holds the title of being the longest pier in Wales, and its Victorian design earns it a well-deserved Grade Two listing for historic significance.

If you’re heading up the Great Orme, but don’t fancy the walk, you can take the Victorian tram to the summit. The tram has two stops: the halfway point with information about its history/engineering, trail points to walks and the Great Orme Mines, and then the summit stop, with breath taking views, cafes, and visitor centres.

At the tram's halfway point, a brief walk guides you to the Great Orme Bronze Age Copper mines, a 3,500-year-old attraction offering both educational and enjoyable experiences. If you choose not to take the tram, you can also drive or walk to reach the site.

If you’re looking to visit the Great Orme summit, then riding the Happy Valley Great Orme Cable cars is another option for getting there. Llandudno’s cable cars hold the distinction of being the longest cable car system in the UK, transporting you in approximately 9 minutes to the top.

At the Great Orme Summit, you’ll find breath taking views of the Irish seas and beyond. You don't have to get the tram or cable car to get here. You can also drive or walk. There’s a café for you to stop at for a much-earned break from exploring the area. There are also little walks to explore where you can get different viewpoints of the Ormes surrounding beauty. The summit also has a small visitor centre where you can learn more about the Great Orme’s history, and its biodiversity and wildlife. 

The Great Orme Circular is a 9km walking circuit around Marine Drive that offers spectacular views. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it is surfaced all the way around and takes an average of 2.5-3 hours to complete. We recommend starting at West Shore and ending at North Shore, with a tea break in the middle at the Rest and Be Thankful Café.

A few miles from Llandudno is Conwy Castle, one of the world’s best preserved medieval castles. Within the castle walls lies Conwy Town, a picturesque market town including independent shops and a quaint harbour.
